Finding the right 3 place snowmobile trailer for each person is a little tricky. Truthfully, there’s really no one-size-fits-all way to put three snowmobiles in a trailer. Some people are content to cram three sleds into a two place trailer, leaving little room to breathe. While others will just buy a 4 place trailer and enjoy the extra space. There is an in between and we want you to be aware of your different options.
Firstly, this page is designed as a resource for you but does not guarantee your particular sleds will be able to be configured as outlined below. What we describe on this page for three snowmobiles loading into a trailer is based off of what we’ve seen and what we’ve experienced. Our experience is primarily with trail sleds with track lengths varying from 120″-137″.
Your typical trail sled has skis that are 48″ wide and the snowmobile is about 120-126″ in overall length. If you have mountain sleds, you’ll probably find a narrower ski stance but overall length can grow substantially. Utility sleds can be wider than trail sleds and longer than mountain sleds. There are all sorts of factors that come into play when trying to find the right 3 place snowmobile trailer for you.
If you want to know how your particular sleds will fit, tape off an area in your driveway and load the sleds in. That’s the only way to know if you’ll be comfortable with how tight the sleds have to be to one another to get them in any particular sized trailer.
Model: SNO718
Nominal Dimensions: 7′ x 18′ + V-Nose
Interior Dimensions: 81″ wide x 17’11” + V-nose
Loading Style: Staggered
Our SNO718 has been our best selling 3 place snowmobile trailer for over a decade. Drive in the front ramp and straight out the back. As with any inline design trailer, it does take a little shuffling around to get the sleds in the perfect position but the proper side door and front ramp door locations can help with that.
+ Narrower Trailer Box
+ No mirror extensions
+ Less Drag
+ Better rear visibility
+ Flat interior wall (no wheel wells to maneuver around)
+ Big 15″ tires mounted as wide as legally possible
– Inherently requires a longer trailer due to staggered loading – Staggered loading means you may need to “merry-go-round” your sleds to get to the one you want
This is the perfect trailer for: Hauling long distances at highway speeds, chasing snow.
This trailer isn’t ideal for: Leaving at your camp all winter to use as a garage.
Why?: If you just need to get to one sled, you may have to unload the entire trailer to get to it, or to load it back in after.
Model: SNO9018
Dimensions: 7.5′ x 18′ + V-Nose
Interior Dimensions:90″ x 17’11” + V-nose
Distance Between Wheel Wells: 83.5″
Loading Style: Staggered
Our SNO9018 has been growing in popularity for the last several years. The added width of the 7.5′ wide trailer gives you substantially more room for 3 sleds compared to a 7′ wide trailer. It also makes sneaking that 4th sled in quite a bit easier for those couple times a year you need it. The added width is also great if you have a Side-by-Side with solid doors. The disadvantage of going wider is that we now have a small wheel well inside the trailer that you’ll have to maneuver your sleds around.
Pros
+ Narrower box than 101″ wide trailers
+ Big 15″ tires mounted as wide as legally possible
+ More interior width than 7′ wide makes it a little more versatile
Cons
– Inherently requires a longer trailer due to staggered loading
– Staggered loading means you may need to “merry-go-round” your sleds to get to the one you want
– Have to maneuver snowmobiles around the wheel wells
– Wider than 7′ wide so some tow vehicles may require mirror extensions/tow mirrors[/one_half_last]
This is the perfect trailer for: Someone who needs the versatility of loading 3-4 sleds to chase snow in the winter and loading up the SxS to find some mud in the summer.
This trailer isn’t ideal for: Leaving at your camp all winter to use as a garage.
Why?: If you just need to get to one sled, you may have to unload the entire trailer to get to it, or to load it back in after.
Model: S101-14VNT
Dimensions: 101″ x 14′ + V-Nose
Loading Style: Side by side, plus 1
If you prefer the side by side loading of a 101″ wide deckover snowmobile trailer, you can go with our S101-14VNT for 3 sleds. The actual loading configuration isn’t entirely side by side, as 3 is an odd number. The location of the 3rd sled depends on a multitude of factors of all 3 sleds in the trailer. These factors include: width, length, stance, A-arm geometry, running board height.
Pros
+ Overall length of trailer is shorter
+ Easy access to the two side by side loaded sleds
Cons
– Requires mirror extensions or tow mirrors
– Smaller diameter tires spin at a higher RPM increasing heat to the tires and bearings
– Loading 3rd sled may require some maneuvering
This is the perfect trailer for: Someone who wants a shorter overall length trailer or wants to fit ATVs next to each other in the trailer.
This trailer isn’t ideal for: Long distance towing on a regular basis.
Why?: The wider trailer box and higher deck height increase drag while towing and the smaller tires are more prone to overheat.
Also Consider: S101-16VNT. The extra 2′ in length allows more room for the third sled.
Looking to haul two sleds all the time but like the idea of squeezing a third sled in there?
Consider the following models that we’ve seen customers squeeze that third sled into:
Model | Loading | Fit |
SNO714 | Drive one in rear ramp, back one in rear ramp, drive one in front ramp | Very tight |
SNO716 | Same as above | Tight |
SNO9014 | Same as above | Tight |
SNO9016 | Sled dependent. May be able to drive 3 in front ramp, may have to back 1-2 sleds into trailer | Comfortable |
S101-14 | Drive two in, push tunnels to trailer walls, back third sled in | Tight |
